With the New Year, I reflect on a song I wrote in 1986:
You’re Dreamin’ Girl
You’re dreamin’ girl, you got your head in the clouds,
You won’t make it so you’d better come down.
They say, you’re dreamin’ girl you got your head in the clouds,
You won’t make it so you’d better come down.
The challenge, it’s within us all
To forge ahead though we might fall
To find the person we may be
They can’t take that away from me
The wind it blows where it will
Across the highest darkest hill
I’ll catch a ride beyond that peak
Bound to find what I seek
The whirling of the caves inside
Try and blow the wind aside
Truth is scattered can’t be reached
Locked within I hear them preach
Voices ringing from hollow walls
You’re headed for a mighty fall
Better stop, you’ll lose it all
Don’t listen, it’s a piper’s call.
The battle rages on and on
But I know my Sword is strong
Power found in the dream
Don’t you know, it’s not a scheme?

My parents had just come to visit us on our 52 acre tree farm, when I wrote this song. Working the land from scratch was hard work and stretched us thin. My enthusiasm for what we were doing, however, had not yet waned. My Dad’s response to our new venture was,
“You’re dreamin’ girl. Get your head out of the clouds. You’re not making it. Believe me, you’ve made your bed, now you get to lie in it.”
Consequently, my spirit sank, but my determination did not. Somehow, I knew the words thrown at me were lies.
Moreover, if what we were doing was not my destiny, I would forge ahead and find what was. Over the next 25 years, with the help of God I tore down each lie spoken over me.
“They” told me:
- I was not college material…. yet, I finished a masters.
- My head was in the clouds…..From which came a ministry.
- You’re headed for a mighty fall….. I picked myself up and kept going.
- You’re too sensitive, too emotional…..This is my greatest strength.
- You can’t write a book, who would listen…..I have finished and published four.
- Why would God speak to you? You’re a nobody…..I hear Him everyday.
Resilient became part of my identity.
In 1985 the Lord told me I would write a book. I finished that first book in 2010. I had no idea what it would be about.
Looking back, it is obvious that each challenge I faced deepened my conviction that I had a unique calling from God.
I believed that if I learned how to listen, to trust, I would find my life in Him. Now I guide others in learning the skills of how to do the same.
My passion, my desire is to see others totally freed from the lies that keep them from living their unique calling.
Lies that come out of a background of generational dysfunction. Lies that keep them trapped in a place of darkness and despair.
Equally important, they need to know that is NOT their story.
What passion has God created in you? Do you know? Do you ignore it, or do you follow your heart’s desire?
For example, you can enjoy your gifting, but still, it drains you, saps your energy.
However, when you follow your passion, your heart’s desire, your unique God calling you will NOT be drained.
Fact is, quite the opposite happens. As a result of following your passion, your enthusiasm takes flight and energizes you.
Before you let others try and convince you that your excitement is not from God take note of the JOY you are feeling.
I am here to tell you: listen to God. Trust Him. Follow His lead. After all, one day when you look back, you will realize all those negative voices were wrong. Dead wrong.
Above all, don’t expect others to understand the where, how, when, or why of God’s leading. Don’t waste your time trying to convince them. Save your energy.
Grab hold of your vision. Ignore those who cannot see, who cannot hear. Speak up and go out!
Furthermore, overcome lies and objections, not by arguing, but by doing what God has envisioned for you.
In truth, a fulfilled life comes from following through with the passionate plan God has put into YOUR heart.
Believe YOU have a calling. Go and do it!
